Another Slice of H.A.M.

Quick and easy quest unlocked from completing the Giant Dwarf. Some reasonable xp and the ancient mace is actually pretty useful in places. Nothing else too exciting here.

Our chunk is Mudskipper Point. We can now kill Mogres if we had the Slayer level. This is good for both Rag and Bone Man II and the Falador Medium diaries, but obviously not yet. We can also use the Fairy Ring here now for faster access to the ice dungeon, but we’re not using that for a long time. No new adjacency, so its all upside, just not huge and nothing yet

Next chunk is probably levels? Gonna do some Smithing I imagine

The Giant Dwarf

Full Green D’hide is an easy task, so we get a temporary chunk unlock. And I’ve got a good plan for it.

This snowy bit of land is perfect for temporary unlocking. We’ll need it later for Olaf’s Quest but that’s so far away. What we actually want is the cave so we can do Giant Dwarf. This will give us permanent Keldagrim access, as we can then access the city from its other entrances.

Nice and quick quest. No levels from the xp but its not too bad. With this we get full access to the city, including the Blast Furnace. Now once we have a coal bag we can actually smith all our Mithril, for an admittedly extortionate price. Once we’ve done Fishing Contest we can do several more quests here too.

Our chunk is Castle Wars proper. This has a bunch of aesthetic unlocks, but is basically useless. I doubt we’ll ever even play this. No new adjacency, but this was a chunk I would have rerolled if possible.

Another quest coming right up

Dragon Slayer

We start this post with how we got there. 70 Mining is our first level 70, a big milestone but only easy tier on our list. This gives us a tile we can temporarily access, and I have a plan.

Northern Crandor is a perfect temporary unlock. We will spend 2 minutes there in our entire Runescape career. I think there might be a clue scroll step here? Otherwise we are done with it.

Dragon Slain. We are so over levelled for this, it’s pretty silly

Quest complete! Rewards are good. We get a Strength level and almost two Defence levels. We can also start Heroes Quest, which we only need White Wolf Mountain to complete. But the important part of the plan was getting Rune Platebody and Green D’hide body access. We can’t complete a rune set yet without hitting the rare drop table, but Green D’hide we can instantly complete for another Easy milestone! But first, our actual chunk

Fedlip Hills is a mixed bag. It does nothing right now, and unlocks all four adjacent chunks. To the north we get a chunk for The Watchtower, to the west a chunk for One Small Favor, to the south nothing I’m aware of and to the east Big Chompy Bird Hunting. BCBH is a huge quest for us somehow, and actually something of a chokepoint we’d love to unlock. So 2 useful later chunks, one useless chunk and one very useful chunk now available. That’s probably net downside, but BCBH is good enough I’m excited.

Next, using our Easy milestone to do several more quests

First Medium Clue

I actually did this a couple of days ago but forgot to post. I lost a bit of motivation for this project before coming up with a new plan which is pretty exciting. The clue rewards are pretty terrible, including the worst page, but that really wasn’t the point. To the chunk!

Nardah is less exciting than it would have been some time ago. We can access a hunter shop for hunter training but we already did the bit of hunter this would have enabled. The herblore shop allows us to clean herbs above our levels, allowing for some Dr Jekyl potion cheese, but losing an inventory space for hours and hours is too high a price right now. We can start Spirits of the Elid, but we need the western chunk to complete it. So not too great, but honestly one I’m glad to have in the grand scheme of things.

Soon to follow, my plans unfurling

We finally bit the bullet and slow grinded out the Hunter levels we needed for 29. From 29 we actually unlocked real training and the levels came flooding in. This doesn’t do a huge amount for us since we still don’t have a hunter shop available, but there are a few implings we can catch barehanded now.

Back to back hitting the temporarily unlocked chunks hurts. Again, it has more than 0 use given that we can now kill Ice Giants, but that isn’t a big upside. Not much else going on here, we got everything done when we had temporary access.

Combat next I guess? I’m not sure how else we could possibly get 25 levels

Full Prospectors

So much Mining xp gained, and now 2.5% faster! This outfit is also required for some diaries so its a pretty good one to get. We’re now 2/5 for skilling outfits

Our chunk is a little tragic. We temporarily unlocked this not so long ago, and its come back to bite us. Honestly its not too bad, regular access to that farm patch is important. It’s mainly a shame we kinda wasted our temporary unlock. But it was only an easy reward, so c’est la vie

Next chunk will be levels, hopefully from a bunch of hunter if we’re lucky

Some Herblore, some Agility, and a smattering of other skills. The longer this goes on, the rougher it gets not to have access to all skills. Hunter and Slayer, please, I need you

This chunk is pretty blank. Useful for Holy Grail, but that of course requires Merlin’s Crystal and thus Seer’s Village. There’s also moss giants and a gold mine but those are available more conveniently elsewhere

Next chunk is a long way off 😦

Enter the Abyss

1000 Runecrafting xp and access to the Abyss is a pretty nice reward, as are pouches. Very quick quest and a really nice one to have done. It also let us progress with Wanted! but we low rolled on Sollus’ teleport locations so we need McGrubor’s Woods to finish that off

Our chunk is instant karma for unlocking Fairy Rings. We can’t access the main island, only that tiny island with penguins off the coast. Eventually this chunk is great, Thrones of Miscellaina is a top tier quest, but we’re not remotely close to that. So nothing for now.

Next chunk is levels? Not being able to finish off Wanted! sucks

Fairytale 1 – Growing Pains

This one is the first time in a while where I’ve solved something on this account and felt very clever for doing so. In order to complete this quest, we needed a Probuscis. To get one, the wiki says you need to have done Jungle Potion, which we can’t do. And they’re mostly right – you can’t force a mosquito to spawn as a ironman without it. However, using my main account i was able to force spawn a mosquito and with auto-retaliate off, get the kill on Syth Chunks. This finally let me finish this quest, which opens up a whole world of possibility…

I missed the quest complete screen, but 3.5k Farming plus Magic Secateurs is a pretty decent reward. The real unlock though is Fairy Rings. We don’t have the ridiculous 57 Herblore for Fairytale II yet, but we don’t need it for Fairy Ring access

Here is a map of all the fairy rings across runescape. There’s so many! Most of these are now walkable, for a total of 13 newly unlockable chunks. This is something of a mixed bag, but reduced chance of wilderness is enough of a benefit to be exciting. It also lets us access a few hidden realms, including the Enchanted Valley to get our Rune axe at last!

Honestly, I’m riding the high of solving this puzzle and unlocking so much potential, we don’t even need this chunk to be anything

3 Wilderness in a row, what poor luck! Except that this is actually one of our top 5 chunks. Access to the Abyss and the Zamarokian Mage is huge, letting us complete both a miniquest and a real quest, and massively increasing our ability to train Runecrafting. This is a sweet one!

Next chunk is probably the miniquest, done shortly!

A whole bunch of Runecrafting and some Herblore for these total levels. Mainly carried by What Lies Below, this wasn’t nearly as bad as expected. Still could really use some chunks to give us some progress goals

More Wilderness, boo! 2 in a row is rough. Rerolls exist to prevent this, but our ratio of bad chunks to rerolls is clearly not good enough. Guess we should try some Medium milestones!

No idea where our next unlock will be. Almost certainly levels again?
